Bard College at Simon's Rock: the Early College

Rare Mercury Transit!

There's a rare astronomical event happening next week. On Monday, May 9th, Mercury will transit (pass in front of) the sun and we are all set up to view it!

Caution: Do not try to look at the sun with the naked eye, not only will you not be able to see Mercury, but you might also injure your retinas in the process.

Since the transit will occur between 7:20am and 1:45pm, there will be many opportunities for you to see it yourself in the telescope, just stop by between classes to the Simon's Rock Observatory, a.k.a area behind Fisher, and Amy Ralston and Harold Hastings will have the telescope set up from 8:30am to 12:30pm. If you want to bring a large group of people, please inform Amy or Mr. Hastings.

As of 5/3, the forecast looks good, but any event changes will be announced.
