Translating H.G. Adler: Writer's Voice Interviews Peter Filkins

Novel CoverIn July 2015, Francesca Rheannon interviewed Simon’s Rock Professor Peter Filkins for the Writer’s Voice about his translation of H.G. Adler’s novel, The Wall. A poet and translator of German literature, Professor Filkins is the first to translate H.G. Adler’s novels into English. Publishers Weekly named his translation of The Wall one of the best books of the year.

Adler, a German Jewish writer who has been compared to Kafka, Joyce, and Robert Musil, wrote The Wall as part of a Holocaust trilogy (the novels explore his experience surviving Nazi concentration camps, and losing his wife and other family members). The podcast includes a previous interview with Peter about his translation of Adler’s first novel in the trilogy, The Journey.
