Singer/songwriter and Simon’s Rock alumnus, Mike Doughty returns to Great Barrington on Friday, December 5, 2008, to perform a concert at the local Club Helsinki. Doughty will depart from the traditional concert format and offer what he describes as a "Question Jar Show." Accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Andrew Livingston, the performance will be interactive—they will answer fan questions (placed in a jar) and take audience song requests.
Doughty rose to fame as the lead singer of the 1990s alternative rock group Soul Coughing. After producing four albums—El Oso, Irrisistable Bliss, Lust in Phaze, and Ruby Room—the group disbanded. Since then Doughty has seen his solo career take off. To date, he’s released three solo albums: Haughty Melodic in 2005, Skittish/Rockity Roll in 2004, and Golden Delicious, released this year. Golden Delicious, produced by Grammy winner Dan Wilson, has been met with both popular and critical acclaim. Reviewing the album, Billboard wrote: “Golden Delicious is more proof that Mike Doughty still knows where to make the melodies twist and turn to find the sweet spot among the ridiculous, the sublime and the sad.”
Tickets are still available.
