On September 2, 2008, the Office of College Relations unveiled the Newsroom—a new online monthly publication dedicated to covering the news at Simon’s Rock. It provides readers with a single, unified source of news and information about the College and its community.
The Newsroom offers content for a wide range of web visitors and members of the Simon’s Rock community. Each month, the Newsroom will publish a feature-length story, four news headlines, a campus event, and thematic commentary from the College’s leadership and faculty, in a series called, “Perspectives.” This year, Perspectives will feature Early College as its topic.
“The Newsroom is an exciting, almost necessary vehicle to communicate the news of Simon’s Rock,” says Briee Della Rocca, director of media relations. “Despite the College’s size, there is a lot happening here. Simon’s Rock needed a publication that would translate the news and energy of campus in a way that was timely and comprehensive.” The Newsroom was developed this summer by the Office of College Relations— the newly formed communications hub of Simon’s Rock—in collaboration with Russell Miller of the College’s Information Technology Services office.
Currently, the Newsroom homepage includes a media toolkit that provides reporters with an expert database, fast facts, high resolution images, and more. Links to an events calendar, press releases, Newsroom archives, and other Simon’s Rock publications round out the site. However, editors plan to include additional features as readership develops. “The benefit of a web-based publication is the potential for rapid expansion and interactivity,” Della Rocca said.
The Newsroom is published on the first day of each month. An email newsletter will be sent to subscribers as new issues are published.
