American Choral Classics
GREAT BARRINGTON, MA – Bard College at Simon’s Rock Department of Music and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Department of Fine and Performing Arts present a special joint concert titled “American Choral Classics” with additional support from The Berkshire Lyric Chorus. The MCLA Choir and the Simon’s Rock Chorus will be performing, and the program features works by Charles Ives, Samuel Barber, Randall Thompson, Eric Whitacre, Moses Hogan, Larry Wallach of Simon’s Rock and David Denhard of MCLA, with Haydn’s Missa Brevis in B-flat. Jack Brown directs both choirs, and the accompanist on piano and organ is Scott Bailey.
Jack Brown is the director of choirs at MCLA and Simon’s Rock. As a singer he has established himself in hundreds of oratorio performances throughout the United States. Recent concerts include the Brahms’ Requiem in Georgia, Mendelssohn's Elijah in New York City and Beethoven's 9th Symphony in Illinois. In addition to teaching at both colleges, he teaches voice at The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT and The Berkshire Music School in Pittsfield. He has recently become the Artistic Director of The Berkshire Lyric Chorus in Pittsfield.
The concert will take place on Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at First Church of Christ Congregational in Pittsfield. Admission is free. The address of the venue is 27 East Street, Pittsfield MA 01201.
