This summer, Bard College at Simon’s Rock plays host to Aston Magna’s 37th season in the Berkshires. Aston Magna is the oldest summer festival in America devoted to music performed on period instruments. Under the direction of artistic director Daniel Stepner, Aston Magna’s performances aim to interpret the music of the past as the composer imagined it.
The season includes four concerts featuring Josef Haydn and Bach, John Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera, “Baroque Narratives,” and “Music from the Time of Goya.” Aston Magna has been recognized internationally for nearly three decades for its contributions to the popularization of early music performed using historically accurate instruments and performance practices.
Concerts take place on Saturday, June 27, July 4, July 11, and July 18 in the Daniel Arts Center at 6:00 p.m., with a pre-concert lecture at 5:00 p.m.
