Racing Against Racism
We invite you to participate in Racing Against Racism on Saturday, April 12, 2014. The purpose of the Race is to raise money for a scholarship to be given to a B.A. student (junior or senior) here at Simons Rock who has shown a commitment in their studies and/or in their community activities to working to combat racism and to promote social justice. Last year’s first annual Race had 20 participants who raised a total of $2,500. This year we’re aiming to have at least 25 participants in order to raise $3,000. In addition to helping in a good cause, we’re sure you’ll have a good time!
There will be two events starting at the Kilpatrick Athletic Center:
A run around Lower Pond:
1:30 – 2:30
In the swimming pool, 2 time slots (participants will be assigned to one of the slots the day of the event):
3:00 – 4:00
4:00 – 5:00
Runners and swimmers can participate in both events.
There will be two prizes available, one for the person who raises the most money and one for whoever runs and/or swims the greatest distance.
Participants should solicit sponsors who will donate funds in honor of their efforts. We are suggesting donations of $.50 for every lap in the pool and $2.50 for every lap run around Lower Pond. Sponsors are, of course, free to donate more or less as they choose. If you want to participate but do not have any sponsors, there will be a fee of $10 for registration.
The deadline for registering in Racing Against Racism is Thursday, April 10th.
Participant registration and sponsorship forms can be found at the Kilpatrick Athletic Center, and here:
You can email the forms to email@example.com or drop them off at the Simon’s Rock mailroom.
Donations are due Friday, April 18th
