- Bard Academy at Simons Rock
- Our Purpose
At Bard Academy and Bard College at Simon's Rock, age doesn't define intellect: our
mission is to inspire the curiosity and creativity of motivated younger scholars with
a challenging, empowering, and inclusive education in the liberal arts and sciences.
Redefining High School
For 50 years, the students and faculty at Bard College at Simon’s Rock have collaborated
to redefine what education can be. Concentrated study of the liberal arts at the college
level should start when committed, forward-looking students are ready to explore their
intellectual and creative potentials. Our students begin college at the end of tenth
grade. But redefining the educational experience can start even earlier. At Bard Academy,
we offer an unprecedented and unparalleled two-year boarding and day high school program
to complement the innovative higher education offered at Simon’s Rock.
Communities around the country have seen a recent increase in alternatives for early
college enrollment. High schools, however, haven’t evolved in directions that appropriately
support the students and families who want to take advantage of these options.
Our curriculum leads 9th- and 10th-graders through a deep study of the liberal arts
and sciences that prepares them for advanced work at the nation’s first and only residential
early college. With the guidance of an accomplished and dedicated faculty, Bard Academy
students are full participants in their own education. The classes employ seminar-style
Socratic discourse and self-directed inquiry, immersion in the tradition of great
ideas along with contemporary currents in thought and scholarship, all while teaching
students how to best support learning with new media and technologies.
