Assistant Professor of Spanish and French

Bard College at Simon’s Rock and Bard Academy invite applications for a full-time position in Spanish and French beginning Fall 2019.

The successful applicant must have native or near-native fluency in Spanish, French, and English, a PhD or the equivalent in one of those languages or a related field by time of appointment, a record of excellence in teaching and engagement with students, an interest in language pedagogy and second language acquisition, and demonstrated commitment to professional development.

Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities include introductory and intermediate classes in Spanish and French language, literature, and culture. We seek candidates who integrate the teaching of language with insights into the arts, history, and politics of Spanish and French-speaking regions and who include diverse perspectives in the classroom. The full-time faculty course load is 3/3 and the student-faculty ratio is below 9:1.

Bard College at Simon’s Rock is a highly selective, small, liberal arts college for students eager to begin college early, usually after the tenth or eleventh grade. It is the model for the Bard High School Early Colleges in New York, Newark, Baltimore, Cleveland, and New Orleans. Excellent teaching is key to early college success, and we seek applicants with experience or particular interest in working with highly motivated young people. Bard Academy prepares students to enter our early college, offering a rigorous and creative 9th and 10th grade program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in both the College and the Academy.
