Collections Librarian

Bard College at Simon’s Rock’s Alumni Library seeks a creative and energetic librarian to join a team-oriented liberal arts library staff as our Collections Librarian. The successful candidate will possess innovative and practical ideas for developing, managing, and maintaining appropriate collections across all media to enhance student learning outcomes as well as commitment to critical engagement around equity and inclusion in librarianship and allied fields. Faculty outreach and library instruction in support of the curriculum are a significant component of this position. In addition, this librarian will participate in other aspects of library operations, as necessary.

Specific Tasks Include:

Select, acquire, and maintain print monograph and periodicals collections.
Process and catalog incoming acquisitions.
Manage print retention, weeding, and stacks maintenance.
Supervise student employees.
Teach in the Library’s Information Studies curriculum.
Provide expertise regarding collections, trends in scholarly communication, developments in the publishing industry, and changes in collection development best practices to inform and support the Library’s collection development strategy.

Expected Education and Skills Include:

An MLS or relevant education and experience is expected. Recent MLS candidates and current graduate students are encouraged to apply.
Collection development and/or acquisitions experience.
Experience working with students and faculty in a liberal arts college setting.
Excellent teaching and presentation skills.
Strong commitment to instruction and student services.
Effective communications skills in person, in writing, and online.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and students.
