Daniel Arts Center Night and Weekend Building Monitor

Bard Academy and Bard College at Simon’s Rock, located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, seeks a part-time Night and Weekend Building Monitor for the fall and spring academic semesters. This position provides adult supervision for students working in the building to ensure safety and access to various locked studios, following the building protocols. The Night and Weekend Building Monitor is engaged, present, and available to students and communicates regularly during their shift with the on-duty Campus Safety Officers.

Reporting to the Director of the Daniel Arts Center, the Night and Weekend Building Monitor performs the following duties:

  • Regularly walks through all the building rooms to ensure safety, occupancy and compliance with procedures.
  • Locks and unlocks spaces according to the appropriate sign-out procedures.
  • Maintains an accessible presence to students in the building; monitors for any emergency situations and alerts the on-duty Campus Safety Officer immediately if any emergency situation arises.
  • Follows the protocols for the end of shift.
  • Monitors will follow all Covid-19 protocols for themselves and assist students in doing the same. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to follow and enforce protocols.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and courteously with a diverse community.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional if an emergency situation occurs.
  • Ability to navigate through all the areas of the two-floor building multiple times during a shift.
  • Ability to hear distress calls at a distance.
  • Proven track record of arriving and departing on time for assigned shifts.

Schedule Requirements:

The Night and Weekend Building Monitors cover the following shifts: Sundays 2 pm–12 am; Mondays through Thursdays 6 pm–12 am; Fridays 6 pm–10 pm; and Saturdays 12 pm–10 pm. Subject to change.

This is an academic year (fall and spring semesters), part-time, hourly position from late August to mid-May with several breaks mid-semester and between semesters. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. COVID-19 vaccination with booster(s) or approved exemption is required as a condition of employment at Simon’s Rock.
