Artist's Talk by Painter Robin Williams

Tuesday, September 6, 2016

Daniel Arts Center - Hillman-Jackson Gallery

Robin Williams, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and faculty at the School of Visual Arts, will present an illustrated talk to accompany her exhibition on view in the Hillman-Jackson Gallery. Trailing Off, an exhibition of 5 large-scale oil on canvas paintings, is open daily at the Daniel Arts Center from August 26th through October 7th.

Weekdays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Weekends: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

A Huffington Post article compares Williams to both Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Lisa Frank, praising the complex gender politics of her reclining nudes. Her paintings question the “unspoken myth that only female bodies are innately more worthy of pictorial immortality” and “are bursting with affirmation, both for the male bodies inhabiting the frames and the female artist who painted them into being.” Robin Williams aims to both problematize and pay homage to the art historical staple of the reclining female nude.
