Bard College at Simon's Rock: the Early College

Geology of the Berkshires

Join Mike Bergman, faculty in physics, for a presentation about the local geology. Simon's Rock lies in the Housatonic River valley, between two ancient mountain ranges, the Berkshires and the Taconics, which were once as high as Mt. Everest. Tectonic forces have shaped the region for hundreds of millions of years, while glaciers have left a more recent mark. We'll also learn about how geology underlies the local flora and fauna, and has significantly impacted human activity.
