“Ideology vs. Infrastructure: China’s Urban Revolution and Planetary Urbanization”

Tim Oakes is professor of Geography and director of the Center for Asian Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Author of Tourism and Modernity in China (1998), he is also the co-editor of numerous volumes, including Translocal China (2006), Travels in Paradox (2006), The Cultural Geography Reader (2008), Faiths on Display (2010), and Making Cultural Cities in Asia (2016). His articles appear in The Journal of Asian Studies, China Quarterly, Modern China, Society & Space, and Annals of the AAG, among others. He has held visiting professor positions at University of Hong Kong, Guizhou Minzu University, National University of Singapore, Wageningen University, and University of Technology, Sydney.
