The Fall 2019 Poetry & Fiction Series begins with a reading from novelist Uzodinma Iweala. The reading is free and open to the public.

Uzodinma Iweala is an award-winning writer, filmmaker, and a medical doctor. His first book Beasts of No Nation won the Los Angeles Times Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction, the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the New York Public Library Young Lions Fiction Award, and the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize. The book was made into an award-winning film starring Idris Elba. Iweala’s second novel, Speak No Evil, was a Lambda Literary Award Finalist and a Library Journal Best Book of 2018. Iweala is the CEO of the Africa Center in New York City.
