Join us for a lecture with Harold Hastings, faculty in science, mathematics, and computing, entitled “Taming the Bad Boys of Mathematics: The Origin of Fractal Geometry.” The talk is presented as part of the Spring 2020 History and Philosophy of Science Lecture Series.

About the speaker:

Harold M Hastings, PhD, is Professor Emeritus and Senior Research Scientist after a 43-year career at Hofstra University, which included 100+ journal articles, three books, directing research grants from the Department of Energy, National Science Foundation, and National Institutes of Health. He served as Chair of the Department for 12 years and helped lead development of the MS in Medical Physics. Dr. Hastings is still active in the New York State Section of the American Physical Society, where he serves on the Executive Committee, and continues interest in supervising student research projects.

The lecture will run for one hour, followed by up to 30 minutes for a Q&A. Free and open to the public.
