Symposium Keynote Address: Julia R. Golden

Julia R. Golden (They/Them), Associate Dean of Students, Student Affairs at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science University in Boston, Massachusetts, will deliver the keynote address, "Honoring My Voice: Healing through Resiliency," for this year's Symposium on Social Justice & Inclusion (Friday, October 16, 2020 - Friday, October 23, 2020). About Julia R. Golden
Julia has been serving MCPHS University for 3.5 years and serves as a dean for the Boston, Worcester, and Manchester (New Hampshire) campus. Julia loves creating policies, building unique and creative workshops in leadership, social justice, and storytelling. Their passion for social justice, honoring intersectionality, and self-reflection is what inspires and motivates their work within higher education. Julia feels these are crucial tools to create institutional and cultural change.

Julia holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Sociology from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a Master of Education from Springfield College. Currently, Julia is studying at the University of Massachusetts Boston for the Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education. Julia’s research includes secondary racial traumatic stress, examining how higher education may honor first responders of color who respond to racial discrimination and injustices. Julia feels it is important we examine how we care for professionals of color as higher education was never meant to support people of color.

Julia strives to be an innovative leader. Julia was the first queer person of color to create a national Trans and Queer Person of Color safe zone training with the help of TQPOC scholars across the nation. Julia serves on the NASPA Region I regional advisory board, where they created the inaugural Social Justice and Equity Coordinator position and serves on the NASPA Region I conference committee. Julia is the founder and dreamer of the award-winning, Ubuntu Institute of NASPA Region I, in hopes of creating a pathway for student affairs professionals of color into leadership at NASPA and in higher education.
