Thursday, November 19, 2015
Daniel Arts Center - McConnell Theater
Matthew Porter is a photographer living in Brooklyn, NY. Porter’s images often feature historical mash-ups, collapsing disparate events and cultural references within single frames, or spreading them out over a series of tightly edited photographs. His work has been published in The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, EXIT, VMan, Modern
Painters, Intersection, and Others. He was included in the International Center of Photography Museum’s Perspectives 2010, and "After Photoshop" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2012. Porter’s curatorial projects have included Seven Summits at Mount Tremper Arts, The Crystal Chain at Invisible Exports, and Bedtime for Bonzo, which was an Artforum.com critic’s pick in 2011. He is the co-editor of Blind Spot Magazine issue 45, and his writing and interviews have been featured in Triple Canopy, Blind Spot Magazine, Artforum.com, and Canteen Magazine. He teaches part time at Parsons the New School for Design in New York. He is represented by M+B in Los Angeles, Invisible Exports in New York, and the Creative Exchange Agency.
Porter’s recent book Archipelago was presented at the NYC Art Book Fair at MOMA PS1 in September. A copy of the book is available in the Photo area.
