Outside of the classroom, you'll learn so much about the world from your friends and classmates simply by thinking and living together. They will support, inspire, challenge, and thrill you.
And you’ll stay busy. We offer a packed calendar of lecture and performance series, forums and conferences, visits from renowned artists and scholars, plus campus-wide social events like dances and open mics, talent shows, and trivia contests.
We have a strong core of active student organizations—the literary journal, the jazz ensemble, the chamber orchestra, the multicultural students organization, the queer-straight alliance—and a long, changeable list of groups that depend on student interest and often grow into something big and important; the community organic garden is a recent example. You could also be a part of student government, which has representatives from various groups on campus and brings together students, faculty, and staff to actively shape life on campus.

(P.S. Yes, our school mascot is a llama!)

Whether you’re on a competitive team or not, the Kilpatrick Athletic Center, is there for you. The Kilpatrick invites ALL students to participate in wellness activities, which help to relieve and reduce stress, increase awareness and provide for a balance of mind, body, and spirit.
You’ll have access to facilities, fields and courts, as well as classes in aerobics, lifeguard training, Pilates, racquetball, rock climbing, squash, swim lessons, Swim America instructor training, tennis, weight training, and yoga.
You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in intramural sports that include indoor soccer, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, and water polo.
Our competitive teams include soccer, swimming, and basketball, cross-country, and all enjoy support from the llama mascot. Competitive events with nearby colleges give you the opportunity to test your mettle while making new friends outside of the college community. Participating in competitive athletics requires a high level of commitment, responsibility, and enthusiasm, and provides yet another unique opportunity to learn and grow during your time here.
What’s it like to live on the Simon’s Rock campus? This is the general idea: It’s like living in a picturesque rural village with 450 people your own age, who want to talk about the things you want to talk about.
These are people who (like you) are in love with ideas and politics and culture and
science, and who (like you) are bold and determined enough to have chosen to come
here—and yet who are as unlike you as it is possible to be.
The specific idea includes a lively campus with comfortable residence halls and food that is fresh and tasty. The residence halls are pleasantly appointed, and our
residence staff go out of their way to ensure a cozy and collegial vibe—these buildings
are going to be your home, after all. As for the food, our dining hall staff is legendarily
friendly (they even take requests!) and there is a varied and healthy menu of freshly
prepared dishes, including daily vegan options (and just the right amount of junk
food).
But when you feel like hanging out, you’ll choose from a packed schedule of lectures and performances; a range of programs designed to explore and promote diversity; a long list of student-run clubs and organizations; a constantly updated schedule of conferences, panels, and guest artists and scholars; a Community Service Program with extensive ties to local and regional agencies and institutions. Not to mention a beautiful campus and easy access to Great Barrington and the rest of the Berkshires. It’s all part of our campus-wide commitment to living in smarter, saner, healthier ways.
There are student organizations created to support each other, spar with each other (intellectually, and with foam swords, if you take up boffing) and work together to make your community stronger.
When a Rocker is excited about something, chances are they’re eager to share it. With the support of the director of activities and the student government, student clubs and organizations offer ways to connect over any number of shared interests.
