Simon’s Rock Alum Kyaw Moe Tun ‘05, President of Parami University, Speaks to BBC News

By Emily Berge-Thielmann

Students from Parami University, a fellow OSUN institution, along with university president and Simon’s Rock alum Kyaw Moe Tun ’05, spoke with BBC News about the state of higher education during the military coup in Myanmar in 2021. Parami University, located in Myanmar, is now legally a US institution due to its partnership with Bard College and the OSUN network. “...in partnership with Bard College in upstate New York, Parami students receive Bard College credits as well. Simon’s Rock is a member of the Open Society University Network (OSUN), an international partnership of colleges and universities that stretches from Asia to Africa to Europe to the Americas. OSUN was founded by Central European University and Bard College in an effort to create a more global education network. Its members include American University of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan, Ashesi University in Ghana, BRAC University in Bangladesh, Sciences Po in Paris, and SOAS and Birkbeck, University of London.

Simon’s Rock students can take online courses through OSUN, where they interact and collaborate with faculty and students from around the world. In addition, the OSUN Student Mobility program allows these students to study away at more than a dozen OSUN campuses.
