Dr. Sarah Snyder, Associate Professor of Biology, named Huyck Preserve Summer Research Fellow

Hannah WheelerGREAT BARRINGTON, MA — Simon’s Rock Associate Professor of Biology Sarah Snyder has been selected as the summer research fellow at the Huyck Preserve in Rensselaerville, NY.

Dr. Snyder’s research addresses conservation concerns for reptile and amphibian populations in the Caribbean, desert southwest, and northeastern US. Much of her work is conducted collaboratively through research networks that actively involve undergraduate students.

“I have two research projects I may pursue at the preserve,” said Snyder. “The first would be a new project to explore the effects of invasive species removal and deer management on red-backed salamanders (Plethodon cinereus). The second project would be to relocate research I have been conducting as part of my Ecology and Conservation Biology courses on Simon’s Rock campus to the preserve. The work is in conjunction with the Ecological Research for Education Network to examine the variability of macroinvertebrates in relation to temperature dynamics in urban and rural streams.”

Snyder’s team will also consist of up to four highly qualified undergraduate student interns.

“I have encouraged Simon’s Rock students to apply to the national search,” said Snyder. “This fellowship will allow me to continue doing research and advising students this summer.”
