Spotlight on Jennifer Browdy, Professor of Comparative Literature and Media Arts

Jennifer BrowdyGREAT BARRINGTON, MA — Simon’s Rock Professor of Comparative Literature and Media Arts Jennifer Browdy will be presenting during the 2024 Liberal Arts and Sciences Collaborative Roundup in August.

“I’ll be presenting my grant-funded work “Scaffolding the Academic Writing Process,” said Browdy, “drawing on my 30 years teaching humanities and general education at Simon’s Rock, as part of the Bard OSUN Liberal Arts & Sciences Collaborative.”

The event will take place on Tuesday, August 6; 8:00 – 8:45 AM EDT. As advertised by the LAS Roundup, the event will feature Browdy’s research, alongside other grant-funded authors:

In the AI age, it is essential to break down writing assignments into stages that can be assessed individually, so that as teachers we have an opportunity to intervene early if we see students getting off track in any way. This LAS Guide presentation will unpack the scaffolding necessary to guide students in producing high-quality writing in the humanities based on textual analysis, including:

  • Individual close reading and collaborative note-taking
  • In-class discussion techniques that require careful listening
  • Crafting both open-ended discussion questions and research questions
  • Draft work, from an individual response journal through the final paper
  • Productive, accountable peer review tools and practices
  • Prompted process writing for reflective self-assessment
  • Assessment rubrics and forward-looking faculty comments
