Bard College at Simon’s Rock alumnus Ronan S. Farrow was awarded one of 32 U.S. 2012 Rhodes Scholarships. Created in 1902 by the will of Cecil Rhodes, the Rhodes Scholarship is one of the most prestigious international graduate programs in the world.
Eighty-three Rhodes Scholars from around the world are chosen based on the criteria set down in the will of Cecil Rhodes, British philanthropist and African colonial pioneer. The scholars are “young women and men of outstanding intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service.” Rhodes Scholarships give students the opportunity to study at the University of Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking world.
Ronan ’99 was the youngest student ever admitted to Simon’s Rock at age 11. Students welcomed him back to campus last spring when he delivered the 2011 commencement address.
At age 15, he was the youngest graduate of Bard College and was among the youngest students to enter Yale Law School at 16. Ronan went on to become the youngest political appointee on record at the time of his appointment at the State Department. He was 21.
In October 2012, Ronan began his pursuit of a doctorate in philosophy in international development at Oxford.
