Dr. Hutchinson previously taught at Colorado State University, the University of New Mexico, Berkshire Community College, SUNY Albany, as well as in the Language & Thinking Workshop at Bard College. Since 1986 he has served as the Director of the Young Writers Workshop at Simon's Rock (in which he also taught from 1983 to 2013). In recent years, in addition to publishing occasional personal essays, he has presented papers and published articles focusing on the thought of the English philosopher Owen Barfield and its relation to nineteenth and twentieth century writers in England and America. In 2016 Dr. Hutchinson retired from full-time teaching (after 40 years at Simon's Rock) and is currently serving as an adjunct Professor of Literature and General Education.
