From the Great Barrington Fire District
“We disinfect with chlorine and our post treatment and distribution sample results were both absent of total coliform and E.coli bacteria. Our post treatment chlorine residual is at or near 0.78 mg/Las measured Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Our disinfection does not provide the 4-log inactivation of viruses that are assoc iated with the fecal indicator in source water.”
“We are collecting additional samples of the source as required to evaluate the risk of contamination. We are investigating the condition of the source as well. We are in contact with MassDEP who is evaluating the actions we are taking to ensure safe water is being delivered to you. We anticipate resolving the problem as soon as possible and will inform you when you no longer need to boil your water.”
