Glacial Erratic

Glacial Erratic is the Literary and Arts Magazine of the college. Edited and run by students, it publishes two issues each academic year composed of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, photography, drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture from students, staff, and faculty. Working on the magazine affords students the opportunity to develop skills in editing, design, and layout, as well as to take a leadership role in the preservation of the college’s art and culture.

The Poetry and Fiction Reading Series

Each fall The Simon’s Rock Poetry and Fiction Reading Series hosts four writers of national and international stature who come to campus to do a public reading of their work. In the course Guest Writers (LIT 100), students have the chance to read and discuss each writer’s work before the campus visit, and then participate in a conversation about writing and the literary life. Past readers have included Nobel Laureates Seamus Heaney and Derek Walcott, Pulitzer Prize winners Annie Proulx and Vijay Seshadri, National Book Award winners Jonathan Franzen and John Edgar Wideman, Guggenheim recipients Dinaw Mengestu and Anita Desai, and MacArthur Award Fellows Anne Lauterbach and Charles Simic, as well as younger writers in the early stages of their careers.

Speak Easy

Speak Easy is the online newspaper of the campus. Edited and run by students, it publishes articles on campus events, opinion pieces, discussion of college policy, and humor and advice columns. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to contribute, and the editorship revolves on a rotating basis each year.
