Bard College at Simon's Rock: the Early College

Mathinar: Joy Wang (Union College)

Thursday, May 5

Lecture Center

Come join us for our final Mathinar of the year! This month we will have Joy Wang from Union College coming to speak to us.

Title: Climate Projection and Modeling.

Abstract: The 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded with one half jointly to two scientists "for the physical modelling of Earth's climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming". Their work laid the foundation for the development of current climate models and our knowledge of humanity's influence on the climate. In this talk, we will visualize climate change, risks and impact. Through building a radiation balance climate model, we will understand how increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere can lead to increased temperatures at Earth's surface. We will examine the complexity of climate models, dynamics of the climate system, climate projections, and climate justice.

This meeting of Mathinar will be remote! You can find us at this Zoom link:
