Wellness Center Services

It’s easy to get the care you need, simply walk in to the Wellness Center during office hours to make an appointment with a counselor or the physician. No appointment is needed to see a nurse practitioner.

You can access comprehensive healthcares services through the Wellness Center. Health Services staff will address any physical needs and Counseling Services staff attends to mental health needs. No problem or concern is too small. We encourage all students to stop by and learn what we have to offer. If needed, we can even arrange transportation to off-campus appointments through the local taxi company and the charge will be billed home.

The Wellness Center is located in Livingston Hall Student Union on the 3rd Floor.

On Call After Hours 

Nurses are on call, with physician backup, nights and weekends during the school year for urgent medical care needs. Contacting the on-duty residence director or Campus Safety at ext. 7291.

Health Services

Our Health Services staff includes three registered nurses and a pediatrician who have extensive experience working with adolescents. We are available to discuss concerns, no matter how minor, and will assist you in caring for your health.

  • We treat Infections and injuries, as well as exacerbations of more chronic problems, such as asthma or eczema.
  • We counsel students with concerns about sleep, diet, and stress.
  • We provide birth control.
  • We provide smoking cessation assistance.
  • We complete basic lab tests on the premises, and other necessary lab work can be drawn here and sent out.
  • We work closely with our counseling staff for students with mental health issues affecting their physical health.

Our physician is on the local hospital staff and can order testing there, including X-rays, as well as make referrals to the ER and local specialists as needed. The physician follows up on all students who have been seen in the hospital.

If you cannot easily access your primary care provider, our physician can perform physical exams as needed for camp, foreign travel, and working papers. We are able to order and administer most immunizations.

Counseling Services

Counseling is free for all currently enrolled students. Appointments for psychiatric evaluation and medication management are scheduled by referral from a Counseling Services clinician and are billed separately through insurance.

Records and the information discussed are kept confidential and are not disclosed to others outside of the Wellness Center without written consent. There are specific exceptions within federal confidentiality guidelines, which will be reviewed with you during your intake appointment.

  • social/interpersonal struggles

Our services include: 

  • individual therapy
  • focus groups
  • crisis intervention and assessment
  • psychiatric evaluation/medication management
  • referral to outside services as needed and requested
  • and consultations/trainings for faculty, staff and students

Urgent Care

If you are faced with an urgent/crisis situation related to health or counseling services outside of office hours, please contact the Campus Safety Department, 413-528-7291 or dial “0” on a campus phone. A nurse is on call, with physician backup, after hours and on weekends, when school is in session.

Policy

Emergency responders from off campus need to be met and led to the person or area of the emergency.

It is a policy of Bard College at Simon’s Rock that parents/guardians will be notified of any Emergency Room admission or hospitalization with the exception of sexual assault of a student over the age of 18.

prescription medication Pick-Up 

The Wellness Center works directly with Lenox Village Integrative Pharmacy in Lenox, MA (413-637-4700), which will deliver individually packaged medications to the Wellness Center Monday through Friday.

  • To arrange the delivery service, students should check-in with the Wellness Center Office Administrator, when school is in session, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  
  • Alternatively, students may arrange, on their own, to pick up their prescription medications from pharmacies in Great Barrington.

  • If you are struggling with an urgent/crisis situation, you can walk in to the Wellness Center and there will be a counselor available to meet with you that day.

Our consulting psychiatrist is available on a weekly basis to meet with students for medication management.

  • An appointment with the psychiatrist can be scheduled after you meet with a staff counselor for an intake session and the required authorization/consent forms are completed. In addition, it may be necessary to communicate and/or receive documentation from your current or former provider, in order to proceed.
  • You must be willing to continue meeting with a staff counselor, as clinically appropriate, so that there can be full coordination of care and oversight.
  • The psychiatrist will also speak with your parent or guardian about any medication related issues. As such, you will be asked to sign an authorization for this purpose.
