Nestled in the heart of the Berkshires, home to a vibrant local food culture, Simon’s Rock offers the perfect jumping-off point to dive into a study of the past, present, and future of food.
Field & Forest: Food Studies in the Berkshires is a one-week residential program designed for rising 7th- through 9th-graders. The program offers an intensive, hands-on introduction to the field of Food Studies. Utilizing place- and project-based learning, participants in the program will begin to think critically about food production and consumption, with an eye toward building sustainable and resilient food systems for the future.
Field & Forest is a unique opportunity for motivated students with interests in STEM, the humanities, climate change, food, and social justice. During their time in the program, students will live in a residence hall on campus, with access to the dining hall for regular meals and to the athletic center for recreation. In this collaborative and supportive small-group setting, students will deepen their understanding of food systems, make new friends, and have fun!
