Professional history

Anastasia Samoylova is an artist with a specialization in photography and related media. Her work investigates the medium of photography in the context of contemporary visual culture. Her current project, Landscape Sublime, explores the connection between the natural environment and its representation through photography. The photographs from the series were included into the collection at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago as well as ArtSlant Prize Collection in Paris.

Publications/Book Chapters/Exhibitions/Performances

Samoylova’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the shows at the Griffin Museum of Photography and Aperture Foundation in New York. She has presented at the Society for Photographic Education and College Art Association national conferences. In 2015, she completed an artist residency at Latitude Chicago and was selected as a winner of the Magenta Foundation Flash Forward Competition. Her work has been featured in print and web publications, including the New Yorker’s Photo Booth. Samoylova’s approach to art practice informs her teaching philosophy, which emphasizes conceptual development of work and interdisciplinary view on photography.
