Request recommendations from individuals who know you and your work best.
In your application, identify who will be writing your recommendations. The actual recommendations can be submitted after you have submitted the application.
Two recommendations must be from high school teachers of two different core academic subjects (English, foreign language, math, science, or social studies); one must be from a current teacher.
One recommendation is completed by your school counselor, which is separate from the school report.
A nonacademic recommendation is from someone who knows you outside of the academic setting, other than a family member. Some suggestions include coaches, religious leaders, a boss or supervisor, club moderators, or music and art teachers.
In the application, as soon as you select “Send Invite” your recommender will receive an email with instructions on how to fill out the recommendation. We suggest that you speak with your recommenders before formally inviting them. You can also resend the invite.
If you are interested in having more than the required recommendations, you may add their contact information on the same page as your other recommenders for one additional teacher and one additional nonacademic recommendation. Please note, it is not an admission advantage to have extra recommendations, but we will add them to your file for review.
If your current school uses Naviance Family Connection, we recommend that you use the Simon’s Rock Application. If you are using the Common Application, you may need to take extra Naviance steps to invite and submit your recommendations.
After you have continued to your checklist, take a look at your application status page to see if we have received your recommendations.
