For students who are unable to attend our multi-genre, in-person, three-week workshop at Bard College @ Simon’s Rock this July (YWW), we are offering a one-week virtual version.
This multi-genre, virtual workshop seeks to create a strong community of engaged writers, while we explore differing forms, inventive language and creative ideas together, through writing — the focus being on the generation of new imaginative works.
In this workshop we write together (workshop leader and students) in multiple genres (essay, poetry, fiction, drama, memoir and other experimental/hybrid genres). We read each others’ works and offer useful feedback. We seek inspiration from each other, other writers, and many art forms and disciplines.
It is our belief that all genres are creative, that writing promotes thinking, and that a community of writers is a rare and intensely useful experience for the developing young writer (and indeed for all writers).
Unlike many programs, which focus on “fixing” a writer’s work, our program puts exploration, the generation of new material, revision and the giving of useful, descriptive feedback at the center of our students’ experience.
Limited to 10 participants per session. Open to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors.
Our schedule is two 90-minute sessions per day plus access to an asynchronous workshop, with a final two-hour session on our last day.
Each participant will meet individually, at least once, with their workshop leader.
