Our Signature Program in Creative Writing offers a select number of students concentrating in creative writing the opportunity to spend a semester or a full academic year studying at University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. Students interested in applying for the Signature Program—generally for study away during junior year—must be sophomores who have moderated into creative writing and who possess an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher.
Manchester, a bustling city with a vibrant arts, music, and sports scene, boasts a university-student population of almost 80,000 out of total population of 250,000 people. At the University’s Centre for New Writing, students can develop and refine their creative and critical work through advanced fiction and poetry workshops taught by distinguished writers from throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. Students also have access to a wide array of courses offered by Britain’s largest university. Simon’s Rock students in this program also have the opportunity to participate in the Leadership and Service Program, which allows students to explore key challenges facing 21st-century leaders and gain insight into British life and society through volunteer work with a local community project.
Simon’s Rock students can enroll in creative writing workshops at Bard College in Annandale.
