Virtual
Simon's Rock is pleased to present Summer Music at Simon's Rock, an exciting three-part series of virtual concerts. For Part 1, the community is invited to join a Zoom webinar featuring a previously recorded performance of the Simon's Rock String Quartet playing Fanny Mendelssohn's String Quartet in E-flat. The performance will be introduced by Katie Rumin. The introduction will be newly recorded material.
Members of the Quartet include:
Ella Menees, first violin
Miranda Herreid, second violin
Katie Rumin, viola
Julian White, cello
The Simon's Rock String Quartet was formed in the Fall of 2018 at the students' initiative, and Larry Wallach was asked to serve as the group's coach.
About Fanny Mendelssohn:
Fanny Mendelssohn, the older sister of Felix Mendelssoh, lived from 1805 to 1847. As a woman, she did not pursue a public music career, but was musically active her whole life, and was considered the equal to her brother as a performer and composer. The small number of major works that are now available bear out this assessment.
