Add and browse images, documents, and videos.
Each of these file types have their own folder at the top of the server directory
(_documents, _images, _videos). If you are adding content, it will need to be submitted and published before it is available.
How to add an image to your page
There are a few ways to get an image onto your new page.
On the second row of the WYSIWYG, use the image icons to add or edit images.
- Source is the location of the image. The default should be to host images within the CMS and then link to
it using the file picker.
- Description is the "alt" tag that is used by visually impaired users. Succinctly describe
the content-relevant aspects.
- Tooltip will be displayed when a user hovers over the image.
- Do not set dimensions or appearance. Image should be styled and sized with a class according to the pattern.
Uploading a new image
Optimize images prior to upload.
- Upload images to /_images in the folder that corresponds to the page you are working
on
- if a folder does not exist for the page you are adding an image to, please make a
new folder before uploading and label it to match the page name
- Refer to our Media guidelines for adding images
File names should briefly describe the contents. Make something intuitive and avoid
using names that require specialized knowledge to understand.
- Use a dash instead of a space and avoid punctuation.
- Do not use (,’& in file name or folder.
Image Names
Example
student-jane-doe-walks-along-path.jpg
Avoid
- Student Jane Doe Walks Along Path.jpg - avoid Spaces
- JD-walks-along-path.jpg - not intuitive who JD is
- a-student’s-journey-along-a-path.jpg - avoid punctuation
- communications17.jpg - not intuitive
- Student-Jane-doe-walks-along-path.jpg - avoid capitalization
Finding an image in the existing _images library
- browse through our directory of pre-loaded images by selecting the "Insert/edit Image"
button from the WYSIWYG (to the right of "Styles")
- Click the folder icon to the right of the "Source" field
- this will bring you to the _images folder which is organized by sitemap. There are
hundreds of images in various sizes.
- The majority of these images have already been used on the website and are used on
the page that corresponds to the directory folder name. Repeat images are not ideal
and should be used only under special circumstances.
