Bard College at Simon's Rock: the Early College

Positive Education: Character Day

Simon's Rock is participating in Character Day, a global initiative to bring communities together to explore the importance of developing character strengths. This year, Character Day participants will include over 81,000 participants in 121 countries, and we are tremendously excited to be a part of this initiative.

Positive education and positive psychology are among the central themes of this Character Day event. These approaches emphasize cultivating strengths--such as resilience, courage, justice, and kindness--that allow for positive personal and communal growth. The presenters will be Gwendolyn VanSant, Anne O'Dwyer, Amanda Landi, Manat Wooten and Sabrina Campbell who all have had personal and professional experience with the field of positive psychology.

Integrating opportunities to develop these strengths into our everyday experiences at Simon's Rock, both within and outside of the classroom, is essential to the mission of CEI, because we understand that the attributes and attitudes of individuals play an important role in shaping the practices and pedagogy of institutions. Additionally, as we work towards equity and inclusion we firmly believe this approach will support cultivating our inclusive community.

Join us in participating in Character Day. ACE credit for Health and Wellness will be offered for those who attend. And light sweets at the end. Dinner at the Dining Hall will open early, at 4:45 PM, so that students will have an opportunity to eat beforehand.
