The Social Studies Division's Proseminar in Social Scientific Inquiry for the fall semester 2018, "W.E.B. Du Bois and the Color Line: Race, Power, and Politics," invites you to attend a lecture, "Does Capitalism Need Racism, Does Racism Need Capitalism?: Reflections on Power and Inequality in Troubled Times," by Elizabeth Esch, associate professor of American Studies at the University of Kansas.

Esch is the author of The Assembly Line and the Color Line: Managing Race in the Ford Empire (2018), and co-author, with David Roediger, of The Production of Difference: Race and the Management of Labor in U.S. History.
