Timber framing is an art and practice with a storied history. For much of history, designing and constructing buildings was done through precise mathematics and physical labor. However, with the rise of industrialization, timber framing became less and less common for building designs. Timber framing experienced a revival in the 1970s which is still continuing today. This revival was furthered at Simon’s Rock following a recent timber framing course taught by Simon’s Rock alum Adam Miller ‘97 in August 2022, which concluded with a timber raising event on the lawn of the Daniel Arts Center.

Writing & Thinking Workshop and the Book One Lecture series are hallmarks of orientation and the first week of classes at Simon’s Rock.

Last spring, Tate Coleman ‘18 was one of approximately 20 student projects to be selected to present at the National Planning Conference, held online and in-person in San Diego, CA.

Senior Tyler Farnsworth was awarded a Massachusetts Space Grant Fellowship to conduct research with Assistant Professor in Biology Amy Smith this summer at Simon’s Rock.

Peter Filkins, the Richard B. Fisher Professor of Literature at Bard College at Simon’s Rock, has been awarded a 2022-2023 Guggenheim Fellowship and a Spring 2023 Fulbright IFK Senior Fellowship.

Assistant Professor of Mathematics Tim Susse is dynamically advancing the study of mathematics at Simon’s Rock and across the broader Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Network through the math seminar programs, or rather Mathinars.

Simon’s Rock was recently awarded an Early College Full School Impact Planning Grant of $150,000 from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Simon’s Rock alum Chazlee Myers ‘12 was awarded an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) grant by the US-Italy Fulbright Commission to provide assistance to local English teachers in Italy and act as a cultural ambassador for the U.S from October 2022 to June 2023. Myers is one of only ten ETA grant awardees for Italy.

The Honorable Loren L. AliKhan '99 was appointed to the District of Columbia Court of Appeals in 2022 by President Joseph R. Biden Jr.

The Theater program at Bard College at Simon’s Rock premieres 4 one-act student-written musicals this week from April 7-9 in the McConnell Theater at the Daniel Arts Center. Simon’s Rock students have had the privilege of working with Pulitzer Prize and Tony award-winning playwright and screenwriter Marsha Norman over the past eight months in the development process of their musicals.

Dr. Michael Bergman, Emily H. Fisher Professor of Physics, recently co-authored a new book, Earth's Core: Geophysics of a Planet's Deepest Interior, with Vernon Cormier and Peter Olson.

Dr. David Myers' review of Organic Mechanisms: Reactions, Methodology, and Biological Applications recently appeared in the Journal of Chemical Education. The Journal also published his review of ACD/Spectrus processor--which he co-authored with Johanna Schwartz '10--in 2014. A practicing mechanistic organic chemist and professor of chemistry at Simon's Rock, Myers' research studies are featured in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, the Journal of Organic Chemistry, and Tetrahedron Letters.

Bard College at Simon's Rock alumna Phyu Hninn Nyein is the general manager of the Farm Advisory Services team at Proximity Designs in Myanmar. Women of the Future Awards, South East Asia recently presented Hninn with its inaugural Community & Public Service Award.
